She sees the best in people (falling in with the Nein and always supporting them at every occasion), accepts their worst (such as always being friendly to Essek, even after he revealed his treachery), and exemplifies the virtues she wants to see in the world of simply leaving it a more interesting and chaotic place than how she found it (drawing dicks all over the place, rearranging stores because its fun, etc). She is a creature of unadulterated id, indulging herself often but also sharing that indulgence with others as she often purchases baked goods which she shares readily or reading aloud from a smut book to pass the time while traveling. Even when things come to light that change how she sees the world - such as learning the actual value of money or being faced with world ending peril - she never truly allows that to dim her ability to move forward and maintain a positive attitude.

Paradoxically, while Jester is vivacious and talkative, always ready to have a conversation with just about anyone, she is often unsure and even embarrassed of her own feelings. She's perpetually ready to talk about what anyone else is thinking or feeling but she rarely shares her own voluntarily. This is seen in canon when she and Beau are going to sleep in an inn in Zadash and Jester lets slip an opinion about relationships based on romance novels. When Beau reacts with confusion, Jester sputteringly clams up and rolls over to go to sleep. Jester is aware that she's perhaps not as experienced or worldly as others in the Nein and her self-consciousness about this drives her to keep what she deems 'important' feelings to herself, or at least away from the one who they involve, such as when she does not talk to Fjord about her feelings for him at all despite wrestling with them for some time. Even when they do grow close near the end of the campaign, Jester tells him she loves him and then ducks out of the conversation before he can reply. Another drive for this is her want to keep everyone else happy, so she tries to keep her negative thoughts to herself and will often redirect, such as when Caleb asks her if she's interested in Fjord and she turns the conversation back on him to ask about Astrid instead of closely examining her own feelings. Ultimately, Jester hates being a burden on her friends and will minimize what of her feelings she thinks will weigh on her loved ones just as much as she simply wants to avoid feeling stupid.

While Jester may be 'pure of virtue' as other members of her party put it, she's also very apt at getting what she wants, often in duplicitous ways. The best example of this is when she speaks with the hag Isharnai to try and get her to lift the curse on Nott that's keeping her a goblin. Instead of making a deal, Jester shares a stale cupcake with her that has the Dust of Deliciousness on it, causing Isharnai to become more susceptible to Jester's Modify Memory spell. She modifies Isharnai's memory to make her believe she's already agreed to lift the curse. She's also used this sort of guile to prank people she does not like, including permanently gluing a golden dick statue to the hand of a rival follower of the Traveler and in pranking Lord Robert Sharpe into getting stuck on a balcony of the Lavish Chateau in nothing but a girdle. Both positive and negative a trait, Jester also uses this cleverness in battle and in other interactions to try and help her friends, even if its not always wanted, such as when she used her artistic skills with Nott to pose as lawyers trying to reach Astrid after Caleb mentioned her while drunk.

Foolish or not, Jester is always ready to believe in those around her. In canon, even though she stole Nott's flask as her friend's drinking was problematic, she still gave it back even though it was clear than Nott was not yet through the worst of her addiction because Jester believed Nott could work through it. She's also the first to offer friendship to Essek when he was assigned to watch them in Rosohna and continued to show him friendship on numerous occasions, such as making him a parasol when she saw he was flinching in the sun, and even after it was revealed that he was a war criminal. She still immediately agreed with Caduceus when he said that Essek was a good person. She hugged Caleb with no reservations after finding out his backstory. Even the Traveler, who she could have condemned for much of his behavior (and she came close after he didn't save her from the Iron Shepherds, but believed it to be her fault and not his) and who many of her friends almost did, she nearly gave her life to save him from the Moonweaver's ire because she accepts him for who and what he is even when that perception changed.

Jester often leaps before she looks into trouble. She's very clever and so she can usually get herself out again, but there are numerous instances where she's barely escaped by the skin of her teeth - such as when she went to deface the Platinum Dragon's temple in Zadash and the previously mentioned interaction with Isharnai and her throwing herself into protecting Artagan from getting dragged off by the Moonweaver's agent for trying to masquerade as the Moonweaver in order to pawn his followers off onto her. Other times she did not get away unscathed. This includes her stepping onto a mysterious pedestal in the middle of seven statues in Eiselcross. She asked some questions but in return, the magic of the statues aged her five years. This recklessness is not only in action either, but also in feeling. Jester lives and loves recklessly because she was cooped up as a child but also because she just loves life and new experiences, manifesting in the more positive form of recklessness; being adventurous.

Abilities: Here is a list of her abilities in canon.

As a cleric, Jester can change all of her spells besides cantrips out every morning. At level 16, she can cast up to 8th level spells, though at a limit imposed by available spell slots of various levels. I'm pretty sure you're familiar with D&D.

For the setting, the following spells and abilities will be nerfed or not function:
Abilities:
Turn/Destroy Undead - Limited functionality. She can turn some monsters of a weaker danger level (3 or lower seem fair?) but not destroy anything. This could also just not work if the setting demands, or be really hilarious and might work on other PCs. Open to whatever.
Divine Intervention - Nonfunctional; Artagan will not/cannot answer personally since I'm saying Requiem is functionally another god's demiplane. I feel like being able to go 'hey god? fix this?' is nuts for any DWRP anyway.

Spells:
Commune - Apparently nonfunctional; Artagan will not/cannot answer personally.
Create Undead - Nonfunctional
Death Ward - Nonfunctional. They're already dead maybe so she can't ward anyone against it.
Planar Ally - Nonfunctional.
Planar Binding - Nonfunctional
Plane Shift - Nonfunctional
Raise Dead - Nonfunctional
Resurrection - Nonfunctional
Revivify - Nonfunctional
Sending - Limited to Requiem, unable to contact other planes.
Speak with Dead - Either nonfunctional or I'm open to whatever hinky shenanigans this could cause. Could turn into a talk with monsters around Requiem that can't normally be communicated with?
Word of Recall - Limited to Requiem.

Inventory: A link to Jester's notable items. I don't think she has anything too ridiculous in there but I'd be happy to pare it down if necessary. If they do need to be pared down, I would request she at least keep the following items:
- Her journal/aketchbook
- Holy symbol of the Traveler (always worn, so not in the haversack)
- The deck of tarot cards
- Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments
- Tusk Love
- The Wand of Smiles

Eternal Reward: Jester will probably change this almost every time she meets with her caseworker, but to start it's for Fjord's shipping company to be a big success.

Goals/Ideas: SOW CHAOS!!
Externally, she's absolutely going to found the Nott the Brave Detective Agency and lampoon all noir tropes all over the place, including getting a fedora and calling people doll for no reason. Probably the wrong people. She's definitely going to be leaving graffiti in places sometimes too, and she might also start blogging if I can keep up with it, which on 1980s technology is completely ridiculous and hilarious. Expect lots of ascii dicks. Too bad this tech is before nyancat and hamster dance.

Internally she is going to be dealing with the idea that she's dead and what that actually means. Lots of heavy thoughts about the nature of life and death that she'll generally be resisting and trying to stay positive. Anything else from a development standpoint is going to depend on how her CR goes.

Basically I'm here for Jester to be Jester and add a sparkling blueberry of nonsense to the game.

Samples: Sample from the TDM

Secret Code Phrase: My curse is my redemption.

comments

She's often the first to jump at quests and given that ADI are ostensibly trying to save the world, she'll definitely lend a hand. It also helps that Beau is already here and helping.

She'll be really nice food for the Spiral too, as not only does her personal story lend itself to insecurity with her own perceptions of the world due to growing up rather cloistered, but she is seen to lean on mind-altering magics and playing pranks that fuck with people's perceptions of reality, such as Sending to people posing as someone else to make them think they're being watched or similar paranoia-inducing gambits. Her impulse control is not super duper high either, so I believe she may eventually end up an Avatar though thinking she'd pulled one over on the Spiral (eg Isharnai) to regain her powers but absolutely not actually having done so because its an Entity, dang it. Can't really trick one of them.

Powers/Abilities:
A complete list of everything she's used in canon.

Regular stuff she can just do
- Cold resistance (racial) - Due to her lineage, she's more comfortable in the cold than an average person, but extreme cold can still cause her harm (resistant to cold damage)
- War Caster - She is more likely to maintain her concentration on a spell if she takes harm. (I'll probably roll saving throws if this comes up)
- Languages - Common and Infernal.
- Art skills - She's been shown to be very good at multiple styles and mediums of art, including drawing, painting, and sculpting. This is a talent cultivated through a lot of practice, but not inherently magical.

Things she'll need to feed her entity for
- Dark vision (racial) - She can see up to 60 feet in dim light as if it were day and in darkness as if it were dim. In darkness, she can only see in shades of grey. Last time apped, Mods said this was minor enough to function as she came in, but if she doesn't feed her entity for too long, it may go on the fritz.

- Diamond dust tattoo - Jester has a tattoo of arms around her shoulders done with diamond dust that raised her constitution score. won't really come up narratively other than as a visual, but it has made her a bit hardier. It will only give her the constitution boost if she feeds the Spiral.

- Channel Divinity: Turn/Destroy Undead - Makes undead stuff run away for a bit, including zombies and vampires of PC or NPC variety. If they're particularly weak undead, they might just drop.

- Trickery Domain abilities -
- Blessing of the Trickster - Grants an advantage to being sneaky.
Fear alteration: If the recipient of the blessing sneaks by someone, the person they're sneaking by gets the feeling akin to The Man Who Wasn't There but still will have trouble finding the blessed.

- Channel Divinity: Invoke Duplicity - Jester can create an illusory duplicate of herself. She can cast through it and speak through it at a short range.
Fear alteration: Instead of creating a perfect duplicate of herself, the duplicate is instead a little... off. The eyes a little too wide, the smile a little off-kilter, the limbs a little too long... but only when viewed from the corner of the eye. Its still a perfect duplicate when looked at directly. Additionally, Jester may occasionally feel as if the duplicate is the real Jester and she is the fake if she's an avatar.

- Channel Divinity: Cloak of Shadows - Jester can turn invisible for a short time.

- Divine Strike - A strike imbued with this causes additional poison damage.

- Divine Intervention - Has a 16% chance of contacting the Traveler to do something of deus ex machina level.
Fear alteration: Has a 0% chance of contacting the Traveler. If this works, it summons a door in the shape of Jester's holy symbol of the Traveler, but once opened it spirals off into an oblivion of endless hallways and impossible doors (ie The Distortion) since the Spiral directly intervenes to negate the call to her god. (If no, it can just not work)

- All of her magic - None of this can be used without feeding an entity.
As a cleric, Jester can change all of her spells besides cantrips out every morning. At level 16, she can cast up to 8th level spells, though at a limit imposed by available spell slots of various levels. In game, she will not receive these spells even if she prays for them in the morning as I imagine the Entities would not allow it. If they would, it would be for a plot specific event and only with mod permission:
Banishment
Commune
Conjure Celestial
Create Undead
Forbiddance
Legend Lore
Planar Ally
Planar Binding
Plane Shift
Raise Dead
Resurrection
Revivify
Summon Celestial
Temple of the Gods

Furthermore, these spells functionalities are modified:

Sending does function but is limited to only Earth and cannot be used to contact another plane of existence, which I take to be any setting outside the this game. Since she is required by the spell to know the individual, she wouldn't be contacting anyone else on this plane with it other than characters in game. While Matt is lenient on what "known" means, I'm going to limit her to only send to people she's talked to at least once or had described to her in detail/been shown a photo of by someone who knows them personally, and not being able to Send to just anyone she sees on TV. Unless you want the President or Danielle Steel or someone to start hearing voices, anyway. Functionally, the further out someone is that she tries to contact, the worse of a headache she'll get from the synaptic feedback of the spell not working properly, to the point of psychic damage if she tries to contact off the planet or plane.

Word of Recall will take her not to a place affiliated to the Traveler (as those don't exist in this world) but instead she can only create a Sanctuary in a place affiliated with the Spiral. This will only work at all if she becomes a full-fledged avatar. If she is merely aligned, it just won't work.

Entity Affinity:
Absolutely the Spiral. Jester's personal growth in canon has revolved around her getting to know the world outside her little room and comparing that to her perceptions of it. Even after everything she's been through, she's still green in many ways and easily falls into doubt of her own perceptions versus reality. Moreover, as a trickster cleric, she is constantly pranking others and challenging their perceptions of reality as her form of worship, especially through posing as other people or even modifying their memories. If that's not the Spiral, I don't know what is.

Inventory:
MUNDANE ITEMS
- A deck of cards for Crick Queen's Call
- Sketchbook/journal
- Disguise kit
- A fang from the giant loch snake
- Map of the Dwendalian Empire
- Painter's supplies
- A holy symbol to the Traveler - Not inherently magical in and of itself
- Healer's kit
- Tusk Love (a saucy novel)
- Grappling Hook with 50 Feet of Hempen Rope
- Cast Iron Mask with Tusks
- A thin gold chained necklace with a small ruby wrapped in filigree
- A deck of tarot cards, handmade
- A chipped porcelain unicorn
- Tuning fork for the Astral Sea - component, not magical itself.
- Five separate outfits besides what she arrives wearing including cold weather gear, a formal dress, a high priestess outfit, her Xhorhasian gear, and her starting gear.
- A hand tapping tattoo stick and ink
- Three pastries in varying states of decay

MAGIC ITEMS
- Fantastic Haversack - Follows the rules for Hewerd's Handy Haversack.
-- Looking into the bag causes a sense of nausea and vertigo, as the extra-dimensional space is definitely wrong

- Wand of Smiles
-- The wand now makes its targets' smile seem completely unnatural and creepy, either pained or Bill Skarsgård ominous.

- +1 Hand Axe
-- Not interested in a curse here. Just nerfed to a regular hand axe.

- Pearl of Power
-- While it will allow her to regain magic, using it causes space to seem distorted around her to those who look at her until she uses the regained spell slot, like she's in a Salvidor Dali painting or the area around her starts to take on non-Euclidian geometry.

- Dust of Deliciousness (five servings, does not replenish)
-- Once digested the dust causes the person who ate it to become completely ravenous for one minute and may try to eat anything in range. Including people.

- Marvelous Pigments (917/1000 sq ft remaining. Does not replenish)
-- Anything she creates with the pigments feels off in an unnameable, bone deep sort of way. When viewed peripherally, anything made with the paints appears to be subtly melting like candle wax.

- Ring of Spell Splitting
-- The second target of a spell cast with this ring adopts Jester's guise for an hour.

- Rod of the Solitary Scout
-- The rod now has a mouth on one end that's constantly a little dribbly. She can sometimes just hear it whispering from inside her bag and if she leaves it out, it's never quite where she left it last.

- Rod of Hand Warming
-- While the rod doesn't burn, the flesh where its held takes on the appearance of a healed over burn for some time after the rod's use.

- Shield of Retribution
-- The shield itself is mundane but if she uses it's kickback ability, it will kick back and damage not just the person who did her the attack, but herself and anyone in close proximity to her.

- Charm of Plant Command
-- She can talk to plants, but the plants can talk back... And she can hear all of them, not just the one she's currently talking to.

- Amulet of Proof against Detection and Location
-- Not only does it block her from being scryed on, it turns her invisible, intangible, and inaudible. Like a ghost. She cannot end this effect reflexively, she must de-attune from the amulet.

- Ring of Fire Resistance
-- While she's attuned to this, everyone in close proximity to her (5ft) will become more susceptible to fire damage.

Samples:
March TDM
April TDM
December TDM

comments
